Today is day 7!
I cannot believe I've gone a whole week without eating gluten! Today was not a typical day for me since it's a Saturday! I slept in until 10am, which made my meals a little different today. We went to the farmer's market so I could stock up on some fresh veggies, eggs and other gluten free goodness! This one lady makes 7 or 8 different gluten free breads and, boy, were they delicious! But apparently getting there at 11am means you miss out on the best flavors! She had one that had rosemary and some other herbs...so tasty! I bought a sun-dried tomato and basil loaf, which I am really excited about trying this week with some scrambled eggs! Next week I will make sure I get there in enough time to get one of the rosemary ones! I also bought some AMAZING gluten free granola! It's so good that I just eat handfuls of it! One thing to note about oats and oatmeal: oats are technically gluten free, however, depending on the practice of the farm/place that produces the oats, they can very easily be contaminated! $2 more to be certain that these oats are not contaminated is well worth it :-) and this cute little old man sells it at the farmer's market with the name "Dad's Premium Granola." Buy it here!
My smoothie today was interesting...I don't know what caused this to happen, but after letting it sit for 15 minutes, no longer than it's been left before, it started to congeal! The only thing that I can think that changed from this week was more kale and fresh blueberries vs frozen blueberries. Any smoothie makers have any thoughts?
Sarah and I had a busy day searching for couches so we took some homemade hummus and beanitos with us! Gosh, I love those chips! We stopped and bought coffee from a local coffee shop. I asked the guy if the vanilla latte mix was gluten free and he was not sure but offered to show me the packaging. From what we could tell, there did not appear to be any gluten products in it, but I have noticed this evening that it has been more difficult to get a deep breath, so now I am wondering if there was a gluten component in that mixture! Next time I'll do my research online before purchasing a latte :-(
We had a delightful experience at Matt's El Rancho, which is a local Mexican restaurant that we have enjoyed several times before! It was such a nice surprise when our server immediately went to check if an item was gluten free when I asked! The manager on duty came out and told me every item that was gluten free and asked what I had in mind for dinner! She went and spoke with the kitchen and had the most tasty burrito put together for me! It was such a great experience because I didn't feel like I was eating any differently than if I was eating gluten!
Side note about yoga: I did not start today because I forgot that I wanted to do measurements again before I started the yoga part of my experiment! But tomorrow will be the day that starts this crazy adventure :-) Tonight I am so grateful to have supportive family and friends, and especially my fiancee!! And amazing waitresses and restaurant people that want to ensure that all of my needs are met!
you need more frozen stuff in your smoothie! use ice if all your fruits and veggies are fresh...
